Google announced on July 23, 2026, a new feature called “selfie video” as an additional way to access accounts. This feature is designed to verify user identity in scenarios where passwords are forgotten or access to regular smartphones, PCs, or two-factor authentication (2FA) apps is unavailable.

To log in, users record another short video while performing simple head movements, proving that the recording is live. This live video is then matched against the stored reference video. Google has implemented multiple layers of security to prevent spoofing attempts using photos or deepfake videos. Any suspicious login attempts are blocked according to the company’s standard security protocols.
