In its July 19 post, Taylor Farms also claimed that the FDA “has not identified a single positive product test result for Cyclospora.” According to Wired’s report, while technically correct, this claim obscures the fact that accurately testing for the parasite is difficult.

According to the newspaper, Taylor Farms executives sought to question the conclusions of the FDA and CDC during that meeting. The meeting took place on July 16, the day before Taylor Farms announced its recall.

Since May, thousands of people have been infected with cyclosporiasis, and health authorities have struggled to pinpoint the source. Michigan officials last week restricted shipments of lettuce that could be the source of the outbreak.
