A New Era of Financial Operations Powered by AI Agents

On May 5 (local time), Anthropic introduced 10 AI agent templates designed specifically for financial services companies. These templates are aimed at aiding a wide range of financial institutions, including investment banks, asset management firms, and insurance companies. They cover routine tasks such as pitch book creation, meeting minutes documentation, KYC file reviews, and portfolio restructuring, which are integral to daily operations in the financial sector.

Scope of the 10 Templates

The 10 templates unveiled are as follows:

  • Pitch Book Creation—Automated generation of proposal materials for investment banks
  • Meeting Minutes—Summarizing and documenting meeting content
  • Asset Management—Analytical support for asset management
  • Financial Model Building—Automation and assistance in financial modeling
  • Market Research—Data collection and analysis for market studies
  • Portfolio Review—Evaluation and reassessment of portfolios
  • Document Search and Creation—Search and generation of internal and external documents
  • Financial Analysis—Analysis of financial statements and data
  • Portfolio Restructuring—Optimized asset allocation proposals
  • KYC Screening—Automation of customer due diligence processes

These templates are designed to address operational needs across the entire financial services industry, including investment banks, asset management firms, and insurance companies.

Two Usage Modes: Interactive and Automated Execution

The templates can be utilized in two modes.

When used as a plugin for “Claude Cowork” or “Claude Code,” they operate within the user’s desktop environment, employing an interactive approach to progressively improve task accuracy through dialogue.

Alternatively, when deployed as “Claude Managed Agents,” the templates run autonomously on the Claude Platform. They can execute tasks on a scheduled basis or perform regular operations without manual intervention. In this mode, audit logs are accessible through the Claude Console, enabling compliance and development teams to monitor all agent activities—an essential feature tailored to the stringent requirements of the financial industry.

Integration with Microsoft 365—Usable Across Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Anthropic also announced that Claude can now be used as an add-on for Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, with Outlook integration planned for the future.

By installing the add-on, context can be automatically carried over between applications. For instance, financial models created in Excel can be seamlessly integrated into PowerPoint presentations without the need for re-entering data. Given the frequent back-and-forth between spreadsheets and presentation materials in the financial sector, this integration is expected to significantly enhance productivity.

Connections to External Data Providers—Access to Real-Time Data

On the data integration front, connectors to multiple external data providers will be offered. These include Dun & Bradstreet, Fiscal AI, Financial Modeling Prep, Guidepoint, IBISWorld, SS&C IntraLinks, Third Bridge, and Verisk, enabling real-time access to industry data and financial interactive information.

Additionally, through Moody’s MCP (Model Context Protocol), users will gain access to credit rating data for over six public and private firms. Given the critical importance of credit risk assessment in financial operations, seamless integration with such data sources significantly enhances the practical value of the agents.

Adoption by Major Financial Institutions—$15 Billion in Funding Secured

According to Anthropic, major banks, asset management firms, and insurance companies are already adopting Claude. A report from Fortune indicates that JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citi, AIG, and Visa have started using it in live environments.

Previously, Anthropic announced a $15 billion funding round led by Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, Goldman Sachs, and others. This funding aims to expand enterprise AI services centered around Claude, with the financial sector identified as a key target market.

The Official Start of the AI Agent Era in Finance

This announcement signals a significant shift, where AI agents are no longer merely chatbots but are now deeply integrated into the workflows of financial institutions. By supporting professionals with tasks ranging from pitch book creation to KYC screening, and ensuring usability through integrations with Microsoft 365 and external data sources, this framework has the potential to become a standard model for AI adoption in the financial industry.
